Me the quilter?

even to me this seemed a bit unlikely. My mum's into quilting in a big way, even use to sell her quilts to shops when we were living in NZ but it's not something I thought I'd ever get into. That is until I stumbled across Penelope Waits lovely blog, this post is what got my inspired to start on my own pillow. So I took a trip up to see Mum and we went shopping for some material to get me started.

I know I haven't really got into it yet but so far I'm really enjoying it and am looking forward to getting stuck into it. I shall keep you posted on how I go. x

right? wrong! when it comes to blog entries that is anyway. I've been so slack and haven't posted in too long. What's been going on lately you may ask? Not a heck of a lot, not enough to warrant a good excuse for not blogging... except that the I.T nazis at work have decided to block all blog sites which makes it a tad more challenging for me to peruse blogs during the day but still, no excuse i know. Well I'm still in the same job I was in however I'm changing my hours, as from next month I will be working just 3 days a week which will give me more time to focus on volunteer work along with my crafting which I'm looking forward to. So what's been inspiring me lately you may ask? 2 things in particular so here they are.

Finders Keepers market

This wonderful market recently graced my home town and brought with it plenty of wonderful ideas for me to start creating. I've almost finished one and have a million more ideas running through my head thanks to it. And I must say it was perfect timing too now that it's a tad colder here.

Winterland

Thanks to the chill this season come with iI've been forced to stay in doors and focus on the more important things, such as gingerbread houses for coffee cups and paper cut outs

I need you're help, lovely blogger people! I'm currently looking for a Camera and am in a bit of pickle as to what I should get so the purpose of this blog is pretty simple, to find out what brands/models you use and what you recommend. I've looked at a few review sites but wouldn't mind getting a few more opinions and seeing as you all display such beautiful snaps in your blogs I thought this would be the perfect place to seek such advise.

Long time no blog. Feels weird but good to be back! Looking forward to catching up with everyone elses blogs again!! I wanted to kick start my blog with my inspiration to revamp my room and totally change the colour scheme from pure to dark. My Little Pony Revamped

There’s nothing quite like beating the winter blues than getting stuck into an art project I find. It keeps you indoors away from the nasty chill outside and leaves you with something pretty as a result of all your effort. So sure I may have aimed a little too high this season but never mind it's all the name of fun I guess. I've recently discovered the art work of Mari Kasurinen and find what she does absolutely amazing so figured I'd get myself a My Little Pony and see what I can come up with. Here are a few of her sculptures I adore, especially the My Little Andy Warhol which is my favourite! Let me know what you think and whether you have any suggestions as to what I should make... maybe a My Little Jane Birken? (:

There are pros and cons to living so far away from America. I can't really think of any pros off the top of my head... I can however think of a huge con! That being I'm not able to shop at Fred Flare. I've found so many things on this site I want it's not funny but do they ship here? Nope! I've recently got back into photography, I'm not sure if it's because I've been seeing a lot of pretty things around or if it's because my digital camera decided to stop so needless to say I was thrilled to find what the site has to offer in the way of cameras. Even though I can't buy them now at least I know what's out there and who know maybe one day they'll ship to lil ol Australia. I've been seriously thinking about travelling to Mexico next year with friends which has led me to learn various Spanish phrases from a friend who is Spanish. Don't you find that when you start to think about something a lot the presense of various things linked to this become more obvious? Well I do and so because I'm learning Spanish I'm noticing the culture a lot more these days. So I guess it comes as no suprise that this Vogue Editorial from 2007 really caught my attention the other day when I was flicking through old issues. I think it's just great especially since it suits my current state of mind. Isn't she just gorgeous!

Pin-Up Toons

When I think about pin ups the words old fashion, sexy and style come to mind. Well I think this site personifies all of this minus the old fashion... more like sexy, style with a modern flare. I've always loved pin up posters so fell in love with this site as soon as I stumbled across it. I love how an illustrator can really take us into a fantasy world, creating images that are totally impossible yet so appealing and this is exactly what you find here. While some can be more risqué than others there's such a great variety of pin ups on this site I think you'd all do well to check it out. Here are few of my favourites:

Isn't is amusing to think that when this vixen started out tall models weren't even considered desirable in Paris? Well 6'1" Veruschka sure showed them! She is an absolute stunner and one hell of a fashion icon to boot. Her book is another one I've added to my wish list for the winter. Despite spending her childhood living in great wealth on an enormous estate it tells the tale of her dramatic and sad upbringing after her father was executed for attempting to assassinate Hitler when she was 5 years old. After his death the remaining family members spent their time in labour camps until the end of World War II when her family was left penniless and carries right on from there to her rise to fame. I think it'd be a fascinating read, don't you?

I want an Akina book! Every time I look on the site they're all sold out. But I guess this comes as no surprise really. Here's the Teddy Bears Picnic book I've recently missed out on:

Isn't it stunning? Lang Leav is the brain child behind this awesome label. As stated in her websites bio she's come from humble beginnings but has now established herself as a multi -award winning fashion designer. Here are a few of her 'villains'

I love how the images she creates are described as hauntingly beautiful, translating them into exquisite hand finished garments. She surely is one that has a lot of talent and is not afraid to use it. And as for me, I've now subscribed to the website so won't be missing out in the future.

Were you a weird kid? I was. I remember thinking how great it'd be to be old enough to drive around with all your friends and take photos of people who had mullets. Yep you did read correct, mullets. I don't even know why but I just figured it'd be interesting since everyone I knew that had a mullet also had a pretty different lifestyle to go with it. Then I would come back from my summer vacation and display my photos all blown up at some awesome art gallery in the city. I think I have these two to blame for my obsession maybe? enjoy ;)

To go to New Zealand... this afternoon in fact! I'm going back for my best friends wedding which I’m incredibly excited about since I get to be Maid of Honour. I'm so slack and have no idea what's going on except that the wedding is at a fancy country club near Auckland and my dress is going to be black with red jewellery. So there will be a lot of catching up for me to do next week before the wedding!! Got the Hens night tomorrow too which will be load of fun, we're going to some nice cocktail bars in the city and I've bought this awesome Cow girl hat for her to wear too, I can't wait!! Jasper Goodall = Legend

One of my latest favourite graphic designers is Jasper Goodall. He has an exhibition showing at the moment in London (boo) called Poster Girl. I think he's found an outstanding way exhibit fantasy/fetish/whatever you like to call it. As stated in the blurb he's all about the erotic art, which I have nothing against... I think he's an absolute genius! I love things which show a naughty vs. nice side and while the ones I've chosen are a bit on the tame side if you click on the link you'll see what else he's capable of. Enjoy!

Window Zoo

I heard about this delightful idea thanks to Flickr many many moons ago when I was completely addicted to the site. The idea is that you attach the decal to a window and then voila you have Window Zoo. I find it such a cute idea since I'm forever seeing shop windows/displays I would love to photograph and including the decal makes the idea so much more appealing. I think I prefer the one looking from the outside in, although it seems that they are pretty few and far between with the majority being from the inside out. I have attached a few from both sides of the window so you can have a glimpse of what this is all about

Paris gets her puppies out

I was never much of a Paris Hilton fan, especially after seeing House of Wax. But since then I've became addicted to Simple Life and now find her hilarious. I find it interesting to see what other people think about her since so many of my friends can't stand the sight of her. I think she's got a great sense of humour and is in fact pretty switched on. I don't know, maybe it's because I see her as a fun and free-spirited person and so think I can relate to her on some level. This is officially my new favourite website. It's so interesting to not only see what goodies people keep in their pockets but also the face to go with them. Unreal. I don't really know if "addictions" is the word I'm looking for, maybe "obsessions" would be more fitting. Anyways I think that just like inspirations can shape and mould our personalities addictions can do the same job. They can change how people view us, be embarrassing, use up all our time and resources all the while building character. Sure they may be bad for you as well but I think most of mine are pretty tame and just a bit of fun. Here's a few of my current addictions:

In 1972, children found the large eyes that changed from green to pink to blue to orange with the pull of the drawstring at the back of Blythe's head a bit on the scary side. Blythe was produced for only one year, but it is now apparent that she was ahead of her time

Obsessively obsessed

One of my friends made a comment over the weekend that I tend to obsess over a lot of things. I took it as a compliment even though I don't think it was really intended as one. My latest obsession is, you could say, interior design. Not so much through the house yet but particularly my room. I think this partly due to discovering theselby.com. I love the idea of being able to peer into other peoples homes and I find with this website I'm captivated by every single photo. Not like an interior design mag we're I'll skim over pretty much everything in the shop and not even purchase the damn thing. So here are some of my favourites.

Although the Post Secret website gets updated on Sundays I don't have the internet at home so have to wait until Monday at work to look at them

I've always wanted to send one in but then change my mind about what I want to say. If i were to send one in today it would say

"I wish I had more interesting friends" and would be scrawled over one of these photos in a

thick black permanent marker

Saying that probably makes me a bad friend but I'd love to have a friend that didn't care so much about what every thought of them and just lived a little. Also one that would walk down to the shops with me with our film cameras and take photos of pretty things on the way.

Inspirations

Isn't it funny how certain things inspire you travel down different roads in life you probably wouldn't have known about if it hadn't been for their gentle often unknown nudge

For example I have never had any desire what so ever to blog. I was quite happy to just follow others. That is however until I started reading quietmilks blog, I realise I possess less creativity than she does in her pinky but thought I'd give it a go anyway.

I love how her range is so simple yet edgy at the same time all the while being completely practical

Frankie Mag

I must admit this isn't as much of an inspiration as it was when I first read it. The mag has definitely helped me redefine a lot of various things about my personality, actions and views. I guess this has come from becoming a member of the forum which has so many bright and interesting followers

Andy Warhol

If it wasn’t for my Andy Warhol posters the complete layout/colour design of my room would be entirely different. In the past my rooms have always been very crafty looking but now I enjoy the bright colours that make up my room and want to try and embrace this through the entire house eventually. This alone is inspiring enough but then I think of his quotes. Simple yet razor sharp. Some of my absolute favourites are:

Although I can’t afford the clothes I like to think classic style and helped me shape mine some what and maybe one day I will have that hang bag I long for. In the mean time I will stick to what Chanel I can afford… being makeup. I really wouldn't mind kitting myself out like Michelle here

My Mother

She has always been a hugely creative person. And I like to think this has rubbed off me even in a small way. When I think of the way she designed little outfits for us, always made up fun games none of the other kids in the neighbourhood played and helped us create rooms that fitted our personality and even bought a house that included endless paddocks to get lost in, wild horses and it’s own creek complete with water fall I realise that I truly have led a good life and this reminds me not to take what I had then and what I have now for granted
