This is Blythe

The original Blythe doll was manufactured by Kenner in 1972. The Blythe doll was designed by Marvin Glass & Associates, one of the world's foremost toy design studios.

In 1972, children found the large eyes that changed from green to pink to blue to orange with the pull of the drawstring at the back of Blythe's head a bit on the scary side. Blythe was produced for only one year, but it is now apparent that she was ahead of her time

These dolls are unlike any I’ve ever owned and I find there’s something almost magical about them which is why I continue to buy them. These are a few photos I found which I think captures the vast difference and loveliness you find in these little beauties

  10. A world away from Barbie that's for sure. I actually quite like the changing eye colour idea, but I can imagine if I was younger I'd find that pretty freaky!

  16. What incredible pictures! Love them all. About 10 years ago I saw my first book of photos of the Blythe Doll and a couple for sale for more money than I thought I should part with - wish I had. They are adorable and even more costly. I don't really remember seeing them as a child - but I am entranced by their, some may say, "scary eyes"...thanks for visiting my little ole blog and commenting - now here I am at yours. I love visiting!
